This session uses patient cases to illustrate the various medical therapies for the treatment of non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, including orthostatic hypotension, urinary urgency, psychosis, REM sleep behavior disorder (RDB), autonomic issues, and cognitive/behavioral issues.

Some non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s can benefit from non-pharmacological treatment. This session considers the role of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), an evidence-based intervention for the neuropsychiatric symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, as an important adjunct to advanced therapies and the role of social support in reducing isolation.

Botulinum neurotoxins have been used to treat selected neurological conditions that benefit from localized inhibition of acetylcholine release from motor and autonomic nerve terminals. This session will begin with a description of botulinum neurotoxin injection for the treatment of sialorrhea, cervical dystonia, and lower limb spasticity to be followed by live injection demonstrations involving actual patients.
