Maximizing Function: Amplifying Voice and Movement – 0.75 CME
Saturday June 28, 2025 7:00am - 7:45am EDT
Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders can impact the voice, resulting in soft, breathy speech devoid of pitch changes, articulation issues, and dysarthria. Parkinson’s disease is also characterized muscle rigidity causing small movements of the limbs. In this session we will review evidenced-based speech and physical therapies designed to help people with movement disorders speak louder and make larger limb movements to improve communication, movement, and ADL’s. This session will present the latest research on the efficacy of these treatments and allow attendees to participate in demonstration exercises to gain firsthand experience.

Conversation Corner: What does a Prescription for Parkinson’s Looks Like, a Patient's Perspective
Saturday June 28, 2025 5:30pm - 6:00pm EDT
A patient’s perspective on that they wished they were prescribed in addition to medication.
Come chat with Esther aka ShakingInMyBoots, a social media creator with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease. Patients often say they are given a prescription and a follow-up appointment, that doctors simply prescribe drugs.  But what else can be offered?  Esther brings the voice of thousands of people with Parkinson’s and their care partners, expressed to her daily on-line.  As a former Healthcare Quality Director, she knows and understands the difficult pressures faced by healthcare providers.  A patients care team can provide education, understanding, connections to resources and community.  It doesn’t have to be this hard.  She is also happy to answer questions about the powerful tool that social media is for healthcare.  Don’t be afraid to harness social media for good.
